what was the criteria your GP used to decide to put you on it?
I am not trying to get pregnant but find it very hard to lose weight.
Want to know if it's likely that my GP would put me on it.

Treatment of PCOS. Metformin, Diannette, diet and exercise.

If your doc puts you on metformin, ask him for the slow release type (less GIT side effects). It costs more than usual metformin, but ask for it.

If your gp will not prescribe it, ask to be referred to the gynae lot.

Gynae put me on it to help control my pcos symptoms along with the pill. But I suffer from several medical conditions and my main symptom of pcos is severe pain.

I personally wouldn't go on it just for weight, as this effect of pcos can be better managed through diet. My sis has proved this by losing 6 stone after coming off metformin by following a low carb, pescetarian diet and using natural supplements. Would defo be the way I would go if I could cope with the severe pain for 2 weeks every month.

Am on metformin, but for diabetes not PCOS.

Side effects can be explosive.

When I spoke to my GP he said exactly what AuntieMaggie said. Would represcribe me metformin (been on previously and v explosive!) had I been ttc but since I am not then the best thing to do was lose weight without it. AuntieMaggie just wondered what natural supplements your sis used?
