Should I go to the doctors?

I've had a stinking cold - possibly flu for the last week - I couldn't get out of bed for three days - and could do with a few more days in bed.

Have been taking a cocktail of decongestant, paracetamol and ibuprofen with some nightnurse to get me through the night.

The last three days or so from 7pm - midnight I have literally been coughing non stop - not a bad chesty cough as I can't seem to breathe that deeply but a shallow cough that I can sometimes stop by tensing my abdominal muscles.

Should I go and see the docs? Or just continue self medicating?

I would go this week, Thurs/Fri if still no better. The GP could listen to your chest. You may have a temp and/or chest infection and this could be masked by the regular use of paracetamol et al.

sounds like cough may be asthmatic? i would call NHS direct for advice - if it's flu there's not much a dr would say but it could be chest infection etc - have you had a temperature?

Thanks - had a temperature and fever for a few days but seems to be back to normal.

I did have asthma when I was younger - probably stopped having it about 10 years ago - my breathing is quite shallow - I think I'll try and get an appt tomorrow. I can't handle more coughing.
