small black spot under big toenail

When I was removing some nail polish about two weeks ago I found a small black spot. It appears to be under the nail and is surrounded by a small area of brownish pigment. Should I be concerned?

It might be a bruise from stubbing your toe (I had something similar a couple of months ago and it gradually grew out). No harm in getting it checked out by a doctor if you;re worried though.

I've got a huge bruise on the other toenail where I stubbed it on the bottom of the swimming pool - but that one looks like a bruise iyswim - the other is a very definite, defined dark black spot - more like a mole than a bruise.

TBH I'd go to the doctor. I'm v overcautious regarding moley things. Actually you could even get in checked in Boots - they do mole clinics, don't they?

It could be an infection. Worth checking out with gp but can be done with an ordinary appt.

Definitely get it checked. The thing to look out for is whether it seems to be growing out with your nail. If not, it needs looking at urgently.
