I have had sore itchy eyes on & off for the last few weeks

They seem to improve & then flare up again. They itch (& I am guilty of rubbing them, which I know makes them worse) & are then sore & puffy. I was sneezing a lot this morning too, so it is almost like hayfever in the winter, which I know isn't possible! What can it be?

It sounds like an allergy. Have you tried antihisthamines?

scrooged · 12/02/2009 22:23

I agree, an allergy. New pillows? soap powder?

Pinkchampagne · 12/02/2009 22:40

I haven't tried antihisthamines yet - just an eyewash, which doesn't seem to be improving things greatly.
Don't think I have used any new washing powder etc, but until recently I was using an eye cream, which may have triggered a reaction I guess.

It may be that the atmosphere in your house is very dry with the central heating on and it being very cold outside there is not much moisture in the outside atmosphere either.

My son has very dry skin and his eczema flared up this week - I think it is for this reason.

You could hang some of those trays on the radiator that you can fill with water or perhaps even go and get a humidifier or even just dry your washing on racks in front of radiators.

i have too, red, itchy eyes,
treating with previously boiled salted water
when i remember occasionally.

Could be dry eyes - chemist will give you something called Artificial Tears, which works well. I get it from time to time - no obvious triggers.
