Terrified about lump in vaginal canal

Tamz77 · 11/02/2009 23:22

Part-time poster here, up late in tears because of something I found inside my vaginal canal about a month ago.

It's about 2 inches in, in an upwards direction, on the anterior wall, and it's about the size of a pea.

I found it, waited a week to go to the doc's to be sure it was 'really there', then I made my appointment. Two GPs couldn't feel it, it was the worst examination of my life. The first doc was a junior and when she couldn't find it she went and got an older more senior (female) colleague, who was obviously pissed off at being disturbed. She flew into the room rolling her eyes and asking me "Why, why, WHY are you poking around down there? What makes you think it's CANCER?!?!" in these exaggerated, operatic tones. Well, I was worried because I've had abnormal smears and had to have colposcopy/loop excision in 2004. I had clear tests subsequently but still, I'm scared.

Anyway they made me feel so terrible I'm scared to go back. They treated me like a hypochondriac or madwoman, as if I've got nothing better to do than skip work for the morning to go and have two strangers putting their hands up me. And I hardly ever go to the doctor about anything (hence them being strangers). Also, the lump is inside me, I can't point to it and say "look, there it is", I explained it as best I could and don't know what else I could have done.

After several days in shock (having expected the lump to be noted and me to be sent off for relevant checks), I phoned back and asked to be referred to a gynae which they have done but not with any urgency, I'm on the standard waiting list, could be months. I've booked a nurse's appointment for a smear and an appointment at my local well-woman clinic to see if they can feel the lump. Not sure what else to do as I can't afford any kind of private examinations.

What I'm asking for in between the moaning about my very unempathetic GP is whether anyone has had experience of this kind of lump before. I'm vaguely aware of my internal topography and it's definitely new, it's completely round in apparently 3D, and inside the vaginal wall rather than on the skin surface (hence me thinking it's something more than just a 'skin tag'). I don't have any associated worrying symptoms - another source of GP's derision - though after her examination I was in pain for the whole afternoon, I don't know if she poked it or something, I've not poked it myself so I don't know if it's actually tender. Of course now I know it's there every slight abdominal twinge is noticed.

Any medics around or ladies with similar experience, I'd be so grateful for advice...I'm very scared and feel ignorant and alone...thanks

Do you know there are physios who specialise in this stuff? If you can find a Women's Health Physio local to you visit them- lumps in the vagina can be a prolapse, and WH Physios can treat them. I do postnatal fitness and my experience with sending women to their GPs for suspected prolapse is awful- most don't know how to diagnose let alone who to refer to. I'd would (and have) paid to go private if you can.

I'm 52 and just had a smear and blood tests and saw a gynogolist in April all results clear.
I also had high risk hpv 3 years ago given all clear.

At weekend I bled heavily after sex no pain and not something that normally happens.
Went to see doctor yesterday they have found a lump in my vagina that's where the blood has come from.
I'm terrified it's cancer now just waiting to see a specialist.
I'm fighting fit and never I'll.

OP your treatment sounds terrible. Can you move to another practice?

I am not a medic of any kind, but my gp told me about a lump that a perfectly spherical lump like a pea shape, whilst worth investing, never really worries her as it is much less likely to be cancer. They tend to be a bit more unpredictable in shape she said. No idea if it is true, and you still need to deal with it, bit hope that helps you relax a bit.

TheOnlyColditz · 07/03/2017 18:41

TEPPIKATH I ALREADY TOLD YOU TO GO TO THE DOCTOR

Twizzler14 · 25/07/2017 17:28

So I have found what sounds exactly the same, done pap, and two obgyns felt it but couldn't see it, they both said they don't know what it is, also said that it's either on the wall or in the wall because it can't be behind the wall that area is too thick of muscle. I am having a laparoscopy in two weeks to check for endometriosis (lots of the symptoms) and the dr said she'll take a biopsy of the lump as well. I've had it for over 3 months now and it hasn't changed in size or anything. OP what was your result? Anyone ever get any answers? Dr said it's definitely not a bartholian cyst or anything like that because there's no color to it (that's why they can't see it) but it's also not a new fold or anything expected. So she said she'll biopsy it, make sure it's non cancerous, check it for endo as well.

babybell89 · 26/07/2017 19:33

I had s lump too and I was so so poorly mentally with it panic attacks years constant feeling of dread!

Turned out to be scar tissues from babies or biopsys from dodgy smears that was years ago I'm fine :-) just lumpy lol x

Twizzler14 · 27/07/2017 14:36

Good to know! I know for me it's neither. I'm getting it biopsied soon though

Everlastingmortality2018 · 02/04/2018 22:11

So glad to read your post, I found pealike lump today, it is not under skin, but protrudes slightly that causes discomfort, not painful though. Will go to doctor tomorrow, scary times but have to get it checked on a week off hadn’t planned this. Have you heard anything further.

Lesbianblues · 19/07/2018 23:11

Hello all
I'm new here so here goes.....
I found about 6 weeks a go a lump inside my vagina then just over a week a go I found another one. I did go to the docs but it hurt to much for the doc to examine me I haven't been back since as I so worried. They are about a inch inside they are Soft and about 1.5inch long and raised. Does anyone have any clue as to what it maybe. I do have the h.p.v. virus. I don't have any infections....any help is appreciate.

Jshea · 10/01/2019 03:43

I have the same thing you are all talking about. A while back I noticed a small pea sized hard bump about midway in, rear wall, under the surface. It freaked me out a bit, but it was so small. I think I may have done a google search, but didn’t follow up.

Now I’m using the diva cup and tonight when I put the cup back in I found more. I moved my finger around in a circular motion to expand the cup and found a much larger array of the same type of bumps, but irregular in shape and clustered together. This time towards the right rear wall. I am totally freaked out.

I don’t think the gyno does that thorough of an exam- they are pressing and feeling for large bumps, not small irregularities. I would not have found these unless I was “gliding” my finger over the wall with a moderate pressure.

I just joined this group to follow this thread. Please keep posting if you learn anything that could help the group members. And no- these are certainly not to be mistaken for the G spot or a surface bump or cyst. They are “beneath” the wall, under the skin.

Grateful for all of your posts. Thank you for sharing your stories and please continue to share your experiences. We might get blown off by an overly stressed doctor lacking compassion but we’re not alone, and we know our own damn bodies.

Jshea · 10/01/2019 03:46

Also- these are not on the cervix. I have never had children and they are not from any type of scar tissue. Again, referencing the original post- they are under the surface.

boobah23 · 14/02/2019 09:43

Did anyone get any answers about this type of lump? I've got 2 problem areas it seems; a painful area (maybe be large soft lump or swelling) on the left side at the back of my vagina, and a hard pea like lump a bit further up. One or both of these things is causing me immense pain, and the last few days it's really hurt to sit down! I'm trying to get a doctor's appointment, but not sure what to do about the pain. I'd love to know if anyone got a diagnosis or what you did.

Alexrufe · 29/07/2019 19:11

So I was genuinely exploring my vagina and I went pretty deep but not too deep and I found a large large bump that I haven’t ever felt before, it felt very large and hard, slightly painful to touch... I haven’t had kids and am still a virgin so I don’t know what it could be, I am really worried though as my first thought is cancer, the only symptoms I have of that is the bump. Please can someone feed back on me with any suggestions as to what this could be, I really worried

princessTiasmum · 31/07/2019 13:43

Alexrufe i think this is very likely to be your cervix, as that is what it feels like so i wouldnt worry about it, bu if you re still not hppy go se your GP, or see if you can google a pic of the anatomy of you vagina

Laura6819 · 23/11/2019 19:16

I have a golf ball size hard lump as well, on the anterior (top) deeper in my vag. Haven’t seen doctor for it -don’t have insurance. Seems to have gotten a bit bigger last couple months. Anyone on here have or had this type of thing??

Eekg · 12/04/2021 01:36

Hi, did you ever find out what this lump was? I am experiencing a similar thing. Thanks!
