Is acesulfame k as bad as aspartame?

I just got my delivery from asda. I usually shop with sainsbury's and am pretty confident about buying their squash. Got the asda pineapple and orange squash, which says at the beginning of description-'no aspartame' but just read ingredients list and it does have acesulfame k. Normally I would only go for good old sugar or fructose etc. Is this stuff bad for children?

What's wrong with aspartame?

FlyMeToDunoon · 10/02/2009 13:46

Well as far as I know and I am sure there are lots of others out there who know much more- It is dodgy because of possible effects on the heart. It is made by an american company in which a politician had a large interest. Politician went into the government and aspartame went through and was approved without the usual testing.

pavlovthecat · 10/02/2009 22:22

It doesn't sound healthy , not that that helps much sorry.

RiojaLover75 · 10/02/2009 22:30

Aspartame is a chemical that breaks down to methanol and then formaldehyde in the body and also may be GM.

Acesulfame K is also a man made chemical linked to cancer, lung, breast and leukaemia.

I don't know why they insist on putting this crap in food!

Right that will be down the sink then. Thanks for all advice.
