Do anti inflammatorys have an effect on the digestion?

I may have kidney stones & have been prescribed Diclofenac Sodium Enteric (which I understand is an anti inflammatory)

Is it possible that these could have caused an upset tummy? I do have IBS

They can irritate the lining of the stomach I believe.

KatyMac · 09/02/2009 21:42

So unlikely to cause diarrhoea then

Must just be stress

You should take anti inflammatorys with food.
TMI question but does the diahorrea look black

KatyMac · 09/02/2009 21:52

I did take them with food

Not black - a bit darker than usual when diarrhoea (if that makes sense?)

But I just came on - since I started the tread - so that probably isn't helping

Stupid digestion

If the diahorrea persists, and gets black, and you get persistant tummy pain then stop taking them and go back to doc!
They are also known as Voltarol. I used to get them for my Fibro, but they upset my asthma. which I thought was odd, as I can take Ibuprofen ok!

I'm not taking them regularly, I took them last week when the pain was bad & had D

Then today I was very uncomfortable so I took one at lunchtime

I think my insides are giving up atm

I have to take omeprazole if there's no alternative to NSAIDs. They play havoc with my tummy. I don't have IBS but they don't have any great effect on my poo. It's a pain in the stomach that gets me. It's a common problem.
