Can you shorten the length of a cold?

As I've mentioned on another post I'm due to go in for surgery a week on tuesday. I have had a sore throat most of the week and today it's turned into a real cold.

Is there anything I can do to get rid of it any quicker? Can't risk having surgery cancelled been to hell and back to get this date.

Vitamin C effervescent tabs
Gargling with salt water
Saline to clean the sinuses ...
LOTS of rest

Mega doses of vit C. 3- 4 grammes a day. You will know you've had enought when you get soft stools.
