dunno why I'm being so flippant I feel really awful - very very sore throat, can't eat, high temp, really painful cough that sounds like croup, neck glands way up.
and an infected tummy button

OP posts:
HeadFairy · 07/02/2009 09:26

aw, sorry for being flippant too. Can you make yourself a honey and lemon drink? I alwys find hot drinks help. After years and years of terrible tonsilitis I found the best remedy (besides hot drinks) is to gargle with soluble aspirin for the throat, then take max dose paracetomol for the temp and other symptoms. Lots of steaming for the cough. Not sure what to do about the infected tummy button (ouch)... tcp?

differentCupID · 07/02/2009 09:29

Kitten you've been on ab's this week- how can your bellybutton get infected while taking them?

differentCupID · 07/02/2009 09:30

I hope you are taking a chcance to rest as well Kitten. Have you thought about an antiseptic throat spray?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2009 09:32

don't apologise!

honey and lemon is actually a really good idea. dh is going to go out in a bit (brave man, its icy) so I'll ask him to get some.

I'll try the steaming too - good idea. Funny how I'd do that automatically with dd but not think of it for me.

I've taken nurofen - I guess I'll have to wait til thats worn off til I try the asprin. Have also taken paracetemol with codeine.

We are having to postphone dhs birthday tomorrow. dd and I couldnt get out all week to get him a present and birthday cake ingredients cos of the weather. And now there noway I can walk into town. So he is going to have it on valentines day instead!

thanks HeadFairy

diffId - not been on antibiotics?

OP posts:
differentCupID · 07/02/2009 09:33

no? My memory is playing tricks on me.
Soryr- too much sleep.

belgo · 07/02/2009 09:34

Ohyoubadkitten - you make sure you look after yourself. I get laryngitis every year and two years ago I was so busy with the children I didn't look after myself, and it turned into croup. I woke up one night unable to breathe and had to phone the emergency doctor and was given inhalers. Even adults can get croup, although it's rare!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2009 09:34

tummybutton infection is where I have a good patch of psoriasis. Its happened a couple of times before. Am going to get it looked at when toenail results come in!

antiseptic spray good idea.

Another thing that worked over Christmas for me was a spray called Difflam I think. I bought it over the counter at my chemists so I don't think you need a prescription. It's an anaesthetic spray thingy and it worked a treat when I totally lost my voice. That and all the other remedies really.... strepsils, honey and lemon, paracetomol, gargling with aspirin, steaming.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2009 09:58

oh cool - I didn't know about difflam. dh can add that to his shopping list.

I'm going to head off back to bed. this cough is scaring me a bit.

OP posts:
HeadFairy · 07/02/2009 10:02

Hope you feel better soon

Lemontart · 07/02/2009 10:07

hope you feel better soon - if you haven?t got into bed already and still reading these posts, just remember that if your croupy cough worsens, get warm steam to ease immediate symptoms. The more your panic and worry, the worse the symptoms, so relaxing warm bubble bath with shower running will help a bit xx

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2009 22:40

Felt awful all day, cough getting wheezy and struggling to catch breath. no energy even to mn. Tried cold air- made it worse. hot bath sent temp up and made me feel v. dizzy. so phoned out of hours gp. turns out it is adult croup. Have a salbutamol inhaler whci does help as long as I don't move or talk. Escaped without steroids thank goodness. Got strict instructions to phone back if inhaler not helping and lots of rest.

do you think dh should buy me a lappy to aid recovery?

blatant bump for sympathy. Feel shocking tonight but a bit restless. Have spent most of day propped up in bed.

Can't believe that little kids and babies get this - those poor poor mites.

ChampagneDahling · 10/02/2009 12:23

Gargle with soluble aspirin. Obviously you need to be careful not to mix up your drugs too much....
Hope you're feeling better.

RnB · 10/02/2009 12:26

Poor you

Try this: simmer thinly sliced root ginger in a cup of water for 10 mins. Then use this water to make hot lemon and honey. It's an actors trick and really helps.

pavlovthecat · 10/02/2009 12:27

Don't stop you talking on MN though does it!!!

Hope you feel better soon

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/02/2009 14:35

thanks guys. funnily enough pavlov - it has yesterday was one of those days where it takes an hour or so to get the energy to get out of bed to go to the loo.

was doing better this am - turned on pc - looked at weather, even ate a sarnie. Now though temp right up again and coughing self sick. come down for ice pop and ice water, will wait for dd to come home then back to bed.

ginger -will try that. thanks

am a bit muddled where I am with meds and timings.
