I know to wash it out with cooled boiled water but how do I know if it needs something more than that?

yellow gunk building up when she's sleeping and she's been generally under the weather for the past wee while

she doesn't seem to be rubbing at them but definately look red and watery - do we need to see Dr or just try pharmacist

Sounds like conjunctivitis - basically like a cold in the eye. You could go to the GP for eye drops - that usually clears it up very quickly.

add a drop of baby shampoo to the cool boiled water. That's what my nurse has told me to try before they'll give out drops. Do it as often as poss

Yes johnsons is fine. Just one drop each time you do it. I've done it for myself and for the boys in the past. It's generally worked well

Breastmilk does the trick, if you're still BFing?

I would go for eye drops over shampoo! Ask the pharmacist, I would.

dizzydixies · 05/02/2009 19:45

pharmacist said breastmilk but send me to Dr who has given me some drops for her

thank you all

My DS had mild conjunctivitus a few months back. I put a few sprinkles of salt into warm water to wipe my is eyes every morning or whenever he had gunk stuck to them. I used a clean muslin cloth each time and changed his sheets/pillow case daily. It cleared up within a weak. I know that Conjunctivitis can be viral or bacterial. ?If viral then it should clear up on its own but bacterial type may require antibiotics.
