has anyone else got a really tight sore chest, and a painful cough that came on later?

Has baffled me. have been bit breathless all week, then a funny pain in my chest the other day, and now its really really tight. I've got a bit of a cough, and my throat and ears are now hurting too. No cold.
Anyone else got this?
Wondered if it was a virus? and I wondered too (sorry I know I'm going on!) what makes the chest tight - never had anything like this before!

Yes, I've had similar to this,no cold, but very bad chesty cough and breathlessness and chest pain - this lasted about 5 days

chelseamorning · 03/02/2009 19:19

See your GP. I've had pleurisy which made my chest painful when I breathed or coughed. You might perhaps have a chest infection so worth them taking a look at you.

Feel better soon.

Hi I have been to docs today, and its a virus, aparently! I've now had a tight chest about ten days and feel really ill! Coughing and sore throat and ears too!
My peak flow was low too. I walked to school yesterday and the cold air really made me suffer!

I have this too, had it since last Thursday.

My cough now is starting to loosen, whereas it had been tight across my chest before.

Still a bit breathless though, and don't have a great deal of energy.

Unlike you though the cold air seems to make my chest feel better.

Lets hope we get better soon.

frostyfingers · 04/02/2009 10:03

Yep, me too. Coughing away like a 40 a day smoker, absolutely disgusting. Youngest gave it to me - he was fine after about 3 days, and I've been coughing for 2 weeks now. Not enough to do anything with medically, but enough to be really annoying and pretty antisocial. The more I talk the more I cough (good thing, some might say!), but hopefully it'll go soon.

I got three children home with similar today.

I did ponder if it was a ruse for another day home, but seems not.......very painful coughing going on and sore eyes aswell.

will be muchjoy if I get this......

I have been out again and got more supplies - had this days now! drowsy covona cough mixture, and buttercup (read it is supposed to be the best) and strepsils. my eyes are red and bloodshot, my cheeks feel hot, I have no energy and cant speak - not my most attractive look!

I had that virus and it wiped me out for a week at the beginning of January.

I am on my second lot of anti biotics to clear my chest and am still coughing up green muck and blowing my bunged up nose every 5 minutes.

Its a horrible thing!

My cold symptoms came later.

mooseloose · 04/02/2009 22:17

Great - I haven't had the cold!Yet! And I wasn't offered anti biotics either!
Supposed to be running a half marathon in March, will be lucky I run to the end of the street again at this rate - been grounded ten days now!

I felt icky on Sunday (my only day off). Went to bed feeling very achy (felt like I'd been on a long run), weak and cold. Still felt cold in bed with merino base layer, tank top, thick fleece and winter duvet. Then felt hot and sweaty in night. Cracking headache.

Monday felt better, still headache but achy chest. Now feel like my chest is tight, with nice wheeze when I exhale and alternate tickly/hacking cough. Have resorted to trying son's ventolin (it doesn't work).

I want to take time off and go to steam rooms, but fear I don't look ill enough.

Am going to inhale some steam and thyme which is apparently good for chest infections.

mooseloose am supposed to be training for 10k, was doing so well think I am now back to square one.

BCNS · 04/02/2009 22:41

ahhh glad this came up.. dd has suddenly gone down with it tonight.. and today I have felt tight and sore and was wondering why.

virus then..

mooseloose · 05/02/2009 17:27

spillage - I had just done my longest run when I went down with this! 10 miles nearly two weeks ago! Usually do 4 or 6 every other day. But I've not been out since last Monday - I really can't breathe, hurts and sounds like I am whistling! The sleepy covona cough mixture didn't work - I still woke up coughing! It's driving DH batty now!

mooseloose I had just done my longest yet just before I came down with it. Hmmm (scratching chin like Sherlock Holmes emoticon)

No sign of evil lurgy abating here yet...still sound like old bellows. Coughing fits starting to get embarrassing.

mooseloose · 06/02/2009 10:16

Oh gosh spillage- perhaps we over did it then. I still feel awful and i upped the sleepy covona to the full 3 spoons too! Sound like 40 a day!
am going to try a cube of jelly in water later - it lines the throat apparently!
still cant get my breath though - don't think the jelly will do much for that though!

I'm feeling better in myself for the first time today since I came down with it last Thursday, i don't ache, eyes have stopped feeling like I've gone 2 rounds with Mike Tyson and I feel like I've actually got some energy.

The cough is still here however, my chest feels tonnes better, and I'm not -barking- coughing so much, but when I do start it doesn't stop for ages. Worst is at night when I go to bed. None of the cough medicines seem to work, so tonight I'm going to try the Vic's on my feet trick and see if that works.

mooseloose · 06/02/2009 21:47

I've just posted a thread about my cough, and just been told vick on feet!
