i had a lovely baby boy 6 months ago but following child birth developed really bad anal fissure. I am in serious pain every day - going for bowel movement like passing glass.
,
Have tried all sorts of creams including glycerl trinitrate. not working. increased fibre and water in diet, exercise, take hot baths nothing working.

Seeing consultant at hammersmith hospital - who is suggesting botox injections to bottom region. uck!

but research suggests reoccurence of fissure in 40% of people who have botox.

next step would be surgery but this could lead to incontinence.

Have found out something called advancement flap procedure could be more effective than lateral sphincterotomy.????

HELP...anyone out there suffered from same problem or had surgery what was the outcome.

AF has really ruined my maternity leave and time with baby- really cant bear it any longer.

I had one with boh of my 2 girls. So i know what you mean when you say its like glass...You live in fear of poo

Dr. just gave me anusol to numb it before I went but didnt really help...

I'd say do what you have to do to get rid of it.. 6months is torture! and really botox injections couldn't hurt that much more then what it does to go on the toilet.
And like they say in labour -- If you're worried about how much the pain epidural will hurt then you're not in enough pain...

I'd also try researching a doctor who has dealt with this plenty of times.. a specialist.
