Has anyone got experience of laser eye surgery? I'm very short-sighted with astigmatism, been wearing gas permeable contact lenses for years. Hate wearing glasses as i just don't suit them, and woud just love to be able to see perfectly without any help.

Am put off by cost, and also "what if it goes wrong?" type thoughts........

the surgeon that did mine had actually had the proceedure done himself

My sister says she can see much better out of the lasered eye than she ever could out of either eye with a contact lens/glasses. So she is very pleased with the result. But she only had one eye done, because she didn't know the ong term effects, and could manage with a contact lens in her other eye.

That is good Nancy but still wouldn't have it done myself - maybe another 20 years down the line when absolutely sure about the long term but then I'll be too old to worry anyway.

I had mine do last year best thing I've done.
Very short sighted. It's so good to be able to see without glasses, they were always the first thing I put on in a morning and the last thing I took off.

Like piximom said going swimming is enjoyable, no more swimming towards people who you think are family only to find on closer inspection they aren't

I had mine done nearly two years ago by Optimax. They did a very thorough eye exam, a detailed questionnaire, offered me ample opportunity to change my mind, to go away and think about it etc. I went ahead and it has been brilliant. Very good aftercare, a really good experience.

They were very clear about the need for reading glasses too. I felt very informed about the whole process.
