I have a very badly twisted ankle which happened at work today. Ankle is very swollen and have been doing r.i.c.e but would really like to have a nice long soak in the bath and wondering whether I need to keep it out or whether it is ok to put in the water. Wouldn't be extremely hot as am 6 mths pregnant.

You can alternate heat with the ice treatment so a bath wouldn't hurt. Hope the swelling and pain go soon.

If you can manage to sleep with it elevated, that makes the most difference, from what I know. Oh, and use a support bandage if you must walk on it.

Just make sure you elevate and ice after your bath. And rest as much as you can because ankle are tricky thinkgs

I so wish I could have a bath. I dislocated and broke my ankle on boxing day and haven't been able to have a bath yet. Hopefully this weekend!

Hope it gets better soon.

thanks all, I had a lovely bath but ended up with foot propped out of it as it hurt too much in the water, didn't count on how difficult it would be to get out of the bath afterwards!!! They didn't xray due to pregnancy but said I may have a crack on the bone as it was so badly swollen and it is now a lovely medley of black, blue and purple!! Thanks for advice. Will try to elevate in bed, could be tricky as have to sleep on side due to huge baby bump.

try putting a pillow between your knees with your bad ankle on top. That is what I am doing.

It will be bruised for ages probably - 4 weeks on my ankle is still bruised and quite swollen but I did have an op too.

Hope you manage to get as much rest as you can. Do you have any other DCs that need looking after?

My sympathies. I have a 2.8 year old and trying to manage with a broken leg and a toddler is a challenge at times to say the least! Hope you get a good nights sleep and the pain eases a bit.
