my dad has to give up sugar and sweet things for month - poss. diabetes...what can he eat ?

any ideas for him ? he doesn't eat a massive amount of sugar by any means,in fact has a pretty healthy diet and is very fit and active for 75 - he sails and goes to the gym - but while he is being assessed he has to cut out these things...so what might he eat instead ? TIA

Look at low GI eating plans online or in books; those will be just the job.
