My DH started having incredible toothpain from two nights ago and the pain was getting worse and last night he couldn't sleep nor eat anything (not even soup..). As he isn't registered with dentist, he managed to see NHS emergency dentist this afternoon and he just told him that his filling is chipped and that's why it hurts and filled it up again. He is still having horrible pains (comes and goes every 5 minutes in waves) and still can't eat. Could this be infection in the tooth? Anybody had it? He would have to go see emergency dentist again tomorrow!!

I have had an infection in a tooth before, because of a filling that had come out. I had to have a root canal, so there would be nothing left inside the tooth to get re-infected, and had antibiotics. The pain was horrendous, I hope your DH has it sorted out asap.

sounds like an absess could be forming, which means treatment is needed now......very painful

IIRC, it took a few visits for it to be completely sorted out, the first where they looked at it and I was prescribed ABs, another where the inside of the tooth was drilled out and a temporary filling put in, and then another for a permanent filling. Hopefully your DH's will be less complicated though!
