got a scrape of eye ball missing in the white of my eye - what to do?

Eye started really watering - I don't know why, so of course i rubbed it. But anyway I can see that there is actually a piece of white scraped away! It's like a slash dent! I looked on NHS and it says don't worry! It's red and I had a headache earlier (gone now) and its uncomfrtable to blink. Any one else had the same? Thanks

sorry no advice but OUCH and EEWWW. eyes totally freak me out. Dp wears contacts and i can't even be in the bathroom with himn when he puts them in.

ClementFreudsGreatestAdmirer · 18/01/2009 22:21

my dd had this. i think she had some drops to make sure it wasn't infected, but it got physically better itself.

gigglewitch · 18/01/2009 22:21

yes had similar when a contact lens got broken in my eye - at work dealing with someone erm a bit challenging. Anyway, if you have a walk in or out of hrs centre or something, go there, you will possibly need antibiotic cream or something to anaesthetise it slightly, i had cream - well it was gel stuff that did both things at once.
poor you!

MrsDoylesMole · 18/01/2009 22:21

Ouchy

Bumping for you.

hellymelly · 18/01/2009 22:24

I would go to the eye hosp as you may need antibiotics.I got tiny bit of rusty metal stuck in my eye and they got it out with tweezers and it didn't hurt a bit ! (that is irrelevant, but I thought I would share it).

mooseloose · 18/01/2009 22:26

thanks - that was quick. Its bloodshot at the side, not the hole - it's not massive, like a stripe of white missing. It's on the edge of the coloured bit. Vision is the same - I am just mystified! I'd have thought really it was hard to take a piece out!

apparently it isn't that difficult to do - but dare i ask what you were up to??

mooseloose · 18/01/2009 22:32

with 'yer eye?

JackieNo · 18/01/2009 22:38

Definitely get it looked at - DD hit DH in the eye with a rattle when she was a baby, and he (being a man and very scared of doctors, especially eye ones) put off going for months, and was in pain for ages. Turned out he had a flap of, um, whatever it is that is on the surface of the eyeball, and when he slept, his eye dried out and then the flap kind of dragged open again, and it was agony for him. He just had to put some lubricating gel in so that it didn't dry out, and it gradually got better on its own.

mooseloose · 18/01/2009 22:42

ugh - jackie no!
No, I was in the garden pegging my washing out when it started to water, and then I rubbed it! Honestly- keep up with the story please

bump what happened
am appalled and transfixed in equal measure

mollyroger · 20/01/2009 09:47

gh ugh! Contact lens wearer here and I'd say, go to opthalamgist rather than gp tbh. They are experts in eye health and can advise. Bad news is, you might need to rest your eye a bit - turn the pc off - after you've read all our sympathy and advice, of course!

mooseloose · 20/01/2009 14:08

Hi, oops sorry I forgot to update you all - i know you all transfixed and holding your breathe for the outcome!
Went to see doc yesterday morn, and she said it's okay, just leave it.
Today it's nearly refilled itself in and just looks like a crack across it.

I appreciate all of your concern though!
