Hot thumb - surely not worth a trip to the GPs?

For the last couple of months I've been experiencing a 'hot thumb'. Every now and again I have to look down at my hand to heck that my thumb isn't actually touching something hot because that's what it feels like. Not a scalding burning sort of heat - sort of feels like it's pressed against a warm mug of tea. the thumb itself when I touch it with my other hand doesn't feel any warmer than my other fingers.

Just mentioned it DH and he says I should go to the doctor, but I think it's just a confused nerve.

Tough one! Diabetes can cause strange bits of numbness, but I'm not sure if it can give you a hot sensation. The thumb is supplied by the nerve that gets trapped in carpel tunnel syndrome but this causes pins and needles in the thumb first and middle finger, worse at night, better on wringing the hands. Again I'm not sure if it can cause a hot sensation.

Could be something, could be nothing. Perfectly reasonable to make a routine appointment to see your GP for.

Ah, thanks NW1. No numbness so hoping it isn't diabetes, but maybe i should go see the doc.
