I was told that bread, fortified cereals and broccoli are high in folic acid.

So maybe cereal for brekkie and a sarnie for lunch. I was told I didn't folic acid because I had enough of it in my diet and thats what I ate.

here.

Folic acid is only present in small amounts in most foods...I think that it is quite difficult to eata diet which reaches the recommended 400mg+ for early pg. Whether you need that mush is probably another question.

Apparently you'd need to eat the equivalent of 6lbs of cooked broccoli (I looked it up when I was ttc) to get the recommended dose. So it makes sense to take the tablet.

Thanks girls I appreciate the responses! Think the 6lb of broccoli might give her chronic wind though...!

lots of bread and cereal.

I would worry that I had not quite got enough from those things and take the tablet anyway (which I am doing).

Marmite! I am not a great fan but was mixing it with salad dressing, it was actually quite nice!

Gorionine · 17/01/2009 10:30

Sorry, why does she not want to take the tablets BTW? or is it she cannot ?

funkyhan · 17/01/2009 14:14

actually something like watercress and rocket doesn't contain as much folic acid as the tablet, but it would be far more bioavailable (ie actually absorbed by your body) than the stuff you'd get in the tab.

(so you'd probably get more out of a nice salad ever day than you'd get from a tablet anyway.)
