HELP! Need Suggestions for AF Cramps Urgently!

Just came on and have a job interview mid-afternoon tomorrow - about when cramps are usually at their worst. So, I'm trying to present myself as a confident professional, don't want to be zonked out on painkillers, white-faced and possibly shaking...

Any ideas? Best I can come up with right now is 600 mg ibuprofen 30 mins before, washed down with a couple of expressos. Don't think a heat-pad would work as I only just fit into my good suit anyway .

Help?

Don't have any suggestions, but will watch with interest!
Perhaps the adrenaline will neutralise the zonked-out-ness of the painkillers ??

Notreallycutoutforthis · 14/01/2009 09:33

Or double the shaking... [terrified]

You won't get rid of them without painkillers. I find that if I take painkillers before I actually feel any pain it stops the cramps from appearing.

Thanks optimistic, but I think that's a bit too optimistic as that's never worked for me

Strong sweet coffee?

Notreallycutoutforthis · 14/01/2009 10:29

Ooh, why?

Don't have the expresso's because you will be shaking.

I can't think of anything else to avoid the cramps . Have a relaxing bath before you leave the house. Make sure you visit the loo just before you go in for your interview as I often find that anxiety about needing to change tampons makes me worse.

Once you start the interview you will probably be concentrating so much on the questions that it will take your mind off the cramps . I once had to do a nerve racking presentation in front of hundreds of people when I had a really heavy period, I was so nervous that the pain of the cramps didn't seem as bad.

Good luck!

Thanks FO!

Picante - what's your reasoning behind sweet coffee? Don't usually use sugar so it would definitely taste like medicine

Isnt there some tablets you can get now for period pains, perhaps have a look into them, sorry not sure the name of them, and sorry if this is too late. Good luck with interview though.

You can buy naproxen over the counter, which is stronger than ibuprofen. Have paracetamol 1hr before and naproxen 30 mins before.

emma1977 · 14/01/2009 11:20

Naproxen sold as Feminax Ultra- take 2

Notreallycutoutforthis · 14/01/2009 11:31

Ooh - thanks everyone, will add to today's shopping list

It's just what my mum always gave me when I had bad cramps as a teenager!

FeminineWear · 14/01/2009 13:11

I would suggest using a heat pad until the last minute, you can leave it in the car.
Also through my website a lot of women tell me that the cramps are worse when using tampons. Maybe try pads on that day.
Good luck!

blogqueen · 14/01/2009 13:13

Hi
The monment I switched to washable menstrual pads my cramps disappeared, maybe it was psychological!!
Hope the interview goes well!

Notreallycutoutforthis · 14/01/2009 15:05

Thanks blogqueen - I'm looking at mooncups but not quite ready to take the plunge(r)

I have used them before and didn't have cramps with them. I think it's because the tampons soak up your normal body fluid as well as the blood. Sorry is that too much?? I bought mine from Feminine Wear.

Notreallycutoutforthis · 15/01/2009 19:19

I heart naproxen. Thanks everybody
