Had enough of problems with my ear - what should I do next?

I've had the senation that my left ear is blocked since last August. I am suffering with earache and pain either in the ear itself or infront or behind the ear. Also getting really bad headaches now and again on that left side behind my ear which radiates to my forhead. I can feel two lumps behing my ear and one in front which I presume to be glands.

I saw my gp a few months ago and he provided a nasal spary diagnosing fluid behing the eardrum (I do not have a problem with earwax). Didin't do the job and so I called him after another few weeks and he prescribed nasal drops a couple of months ago and it still hasn't cleared up. I was advised that if it was viral it could take quite a long time to clear up.

What can I do next? As I am sitting hear typing I'm close to tears, the pain in the side of my head at the moment is so bad and I've literally had enough, it has been going on too long! [feeling completely and utterly sorry for myself]

you could be me

GP told me it was viral on dec 27th

both ears have intermittent pain - I have not had a cold although she kept saying it was fluid behind the eardrum

i had it once before and got anti biotic drops and it cleared up but now that the diagnosis is viral i still have earache!

RP do you have all of the same symptoms? How long have you had it for? I've even been trying accupuncture but it hasn't worked!

Were your drops nasal or ear drops just out of interest.

ear drops - anti biotic and a bit of steroid worked a treat!

Oh no Kerry that sounds awful, I know it's bad enough for me as it is without any ringing. I only get that occasionally. What are they doing for you?

I hope it goes okay for you. fortunately my hearing isn't affected it's just the pain and blocked feeling really. Have you seen an ENT specialist at all? I'm wondering whether I should ask to be referred.
