Ouch and ouch, is it possible to break your coccyx?

I slipped on loose carpet on our stairs on Thursday and went down two thirds of them on the bottom of my back, I was carrying mugs and glasses so couldn't put my hands out.

I was in massive pain and had to lie down for an hour before I could get up. Surprisingly I only had a coin sized bruise but the pain hasn't stopped, it hurts if I sneeze, and I can only sit in certain positions. getting in and out of bed is agony.

Do I need to see the GP? I've been so busy with two ill toddlers I haven't gotten round to it and just sort of hoped it would ease off but it hasn't.

I fell and landed with a bump on my coccyx....ooowwwwww.

Mine healed up on its own, but that was pre-children.

Maybe it would be worth seeing the gp to get checked out
and to have it put on your notes.

Best wishes.

I didn't break mine but banged it going down a water slide years ago. I had a tiny bruise but it was sore for about 6 weeks.

Ouch, how unfortunate! Did it take long to heal?

I have cocodamols which my mum gave to me, but they are not helping at all. I'm going to the gp tomorrow for DD so may try and fit myself in.

It reminds me of having spd in pregnancy, I have to be constantly aware of how I'm sitting, how I get in bed, how in lie in bed. So bloody painful but I'm thankful as it could have been a much worse accident given I was carrying glasses. I got DP to rip out the carpet that night, it's needed replacing for ages and we are living with the bare boards for now.

Yes, I am convinced I broke mine about 10 years ago. There is nothing you can do though, apart from rest. Mine still ached if I sat in one place for too long, even after 2 years, but is fine now.

I did this just before xmas, carrying the box of decs down the stairs and slipped down the last 3/4 steps. It bloomin hurt and I don't think I could even move for the first 5-10 secs Everytime I coughed it hurt [tears in my eyes!] and so did bending down/walking/sitting/lying down!! It took a long while to heal - maybe 6/8 wks! Just as I was thinking I must go and see the doc, it didn't hurt so much and healed on its own.

I hurt mine and Dr said to take ibuprofen daily as needed until it got better. He gave me a prescription for it and the bottle was Huge. Lasted me for years. Aching also lasted for years and would be worse after standing for a long time etc. Oh I did have an x-ray which confirmed no break.

Thanykou all, I will deff see the gp. These are some ouch stories.

It doesn't help that friends keep quipping ''what a pain in the arse'' etc.

I hurt mine in a horse riding fall when I was 13. Didn;t actually break it, but couldn't sit properly for over a year and it still flares up sometimes!

ForeverOptimistic · 13/01/2009 19:00

I hurt mine about 10 years ago and it still flares up now particularly when it is cold.

At work there was a very very large woman who had obviously broken the springs on her chair, I didn't realise and sat down too hard (ouch!). I should have logged it for health & safety purposes in case I get any further problems but I thought it would be far too embrassing for the large lady.

Yes, broke mine giving birth to DS. It still plays up from time to time, especially if I sit for too long.

The bad news is I gave birth to him almost 17 years ago!
