I know you recently had a baby, are you a bit rundown? That could be why you are getting mouth ulcers.

Other possibilities: sensitivity to your toothpaste or as a reaction to certain fruits. Zendium is a good toothpaste I find.

Or it could be a viral infection?

My dh gets them all the time. Taking vitamin C really seems to help him (although I've no idea why this would be). And I mean really really helps him - he hasn't had one now in months.

Any other symptoms?

Are you run down?

Have you been in contact with hand, foot and mouth?

belgo · 13/01/2009 15:33

are you taking a natural vitamin supplement?

idobelieveinfairies · 13/01/2009 15:35

stress and illness does it for me...haven't had one in a while now though ds gets them too

I used to gargle with salt water..yucky but it deadens the pain for quite a while.

Hope you feel better soon.

mad4mybaby · 13/01/2009 15:38

Try eating (natural if poss) yoghurt as well if you like it, it seems to clear up minor infections in the body quite well and is also really good if you have been taking ABs as it helps to replace the natural bacteria ABs wipe out.

I had this

go to the dr and get acyclovir tablets, only thing that wipes them out

3littlefrogs · 13/01/2009 15:44

You might be anaemic. Could you organise a blood test? Also might be worth seeing the dentist. I had a horrid mouth infection when ds2 was 11 weeks. It was due to anaemia and exhaustion.

mad4mybaby · 13/01/2009 15:44

i eat one of those youghurts that has that stuff in o help bloating... that count??

If they're really painful get some Adcortyl in Orabase from your chemist.

You dab it on with a cotton bud and it creates a 'crust' over the top of the ulcer, whilst containing local anaesthetic and anti inflammatories.

It does feel a bit weird but is great if you're having probs eating and sleeping cos of the pain. Whack it on just before meals and bed and apart from the slightly crusty feeling (which only lasts a minute or two), it will completely kill the pain off for long enough for you to eat a meal or nod off.

Shitemum · 16/01/2009 00:10

I used to get them when i'd been stressed. vit C will help as stress uses up your reserves of it.

flutterfree · 16/01/2009 00:39

if it is because run down, you need more vitamin B12, Marmite is full of it.Try introducing to your diet.Marmite and cheese sandwich MMM...

not enough zinc
try taking at least 15 mg of zinc every day for a month
good luck
