Very late period, but not PG?

I am about a week late, on CD 44! I keep spotting and having slight cramps, but no period. I took a test yesterday (Tescos) and it was negetaive, and I am so late that if I was pregnant it would show up by now surely!

We had semi unprotected sex this month, mid cycleish (he pulled out but not terribly efficiently!)

Any ideas?

do you feel well otherwise?

you say slight cramps - are these normal for you?

and the spotting, does it seem like "normal" spotting (sorry for all the questions)

I don't want to worry you, but have you read up about ectopic pregnancies?

smurfgirl · 13/01/2009 10:21

Its v.v.light spotting (barely there).

I usually have some cramps before my period starts yes, these are probably les painful.

I feel fine, have a cold but thats it!

I did consider eptopic but I feel fine.

The only difference is usually my boobs hurt before my period is due and I have not had that this month.

are you stressed?

did you get that job btw?

smurfgirl · 13/01/2009 10:24

No more stressed than usual but it is a stressful time in my life.

What job? I am not qualified yet (still ) applying for jobs as a care assistant at the moment, but no joy.

werent you talking recently about a job interview? sorry smurfy if ive got it wrong

maybe the late period is just stress. and the more you worry the longer it will take to arrive

silverfrog · 13/01/2009 10:29

TMI question: is the spotting red blood or brown? watery?

sorry to keep banging on, but I felt fine until the day before I was operated on for my ectopic (operated at 7 weeks pregnant), just had a few cramps and slightly unusual bleeding...

which pregnancy test did you use?

you could go to the docs and have a blood test, which is more sensitive, and will pick up smaller bHCG amounts (was the only way my pregnancy was picked up in the end, along with an ultrasound)

smurfgirl · 13/01/2009 10:33

Dots of red and brown, looks like normal pre period spotting but i would usually only get that for an hour or so before, but I have been spotting since Friday.

My tummy pain is controlled by paracetamol and its only really in the morning.

i'd try another test - i got vbfp on a first response and a barely there bfp on tesco when pg with dd so i'm not sure the tesco one was that sensitive

smurfgirl · 13/01/2009 10:38

I used a Tescos test but I am v.late, I always thought that once you had missed your period every test would show up?

The tescos one was 100% negative - no faint line at all.

OP posts:
blushingm · 13/01/2009 10:40

i think all the tests vary in how much hormone it takes for a bfp

silverfrog · 13/01/2009 10:42

preganancy tests vary in their accuracy.

they work on detecting bHCG. With a blood test (iirc) a result over 5units bHCg is considered pregnant. When i was last ttc, I believe that the most acurate home test available measured over 25units bHCG. So the difference was quite large.

So it is possible to be pregnant and have it show up negative on tests. The only test that is definitive (afaik) is a blood test, as that measures from nil.

smurfgirl · 13/01/2009 10:52

I will buy one of those first response ones on my way home from swimming later on.

I am just worried really because I don't want a baby right now. Hopefully its just stress and I am overthinking this.

I bought a boots test on the way home and it was BFN soooooooo??!

OP posts:
geegees · 14/01/2009 16:29

Not sure I know what BFN is but I'm assuming it was neg and period has not yet arrived, is that right smurfgirl? I'm interested in this thread coz I'm in exactly the same situation. I'm now about 9 days late, but have done a tesco test today which is negative. Which I'm glad about, we got rid of all our baby gear last year and dh went for a snip a month ago! So certainly not planned but we haven't yet had the all clear from the clinic. Anyway, no sign of period at all, no nipple tenderness, heavy legs though as if period about to arrive but still nothing. Any idea??

smurfgirl · 19/01/2009 23:06

Um I still have no period. I had actually got my dates wrong, but even still I am currently 10+ days late and have had no more cramps or spotting.

Is it worth going to the dr about? Should I just assume I did not ovulate?

I have never missed a period before and I have been having them for 12 years!

If it's really worrying you (which it sounds like it is) I would go and get a blood test done just to put your mind at rest

smurfgirl · 19/01/2009 23:15

It is mostly because I am not sure why I would have missed one. But I don't want to be laughed out of the surgery and waste their time because obviously women do sometimes miss periods.

Thanks for the reply.

They wouldn't be a good surgery if they did that....they're paid to do these things and to help you...I hope you can get a decision from your body soon
