have recently een getting lots of whiteheads on my chest which i occasionally pick

but now they seem to have a yellow ring around the scabs, and sometimes just the spots. It looks like a bruise but ut isn't. Is this serious? they usually dissapear in a few days.

it's yellow as it's a bruise cause you picked it

LucyEllensmummy · 10/01/2009 21:38

don't pick them!!!!!

Squeeze them instead, the yellow is probably just a build up of pus. Doubt very much it is serious.

SlightlyMadScientist · 10/01/2009 21:41

yellow will be either a build up of pus - i.e. bugs...because you picked them

Or bilirubin - which is what makes bruises go yellow. This is a breakdown product of red blood cells. So if you caused inflammation - or blood recruitment to the area by pickin g- you would get this.

Moral of the story - don;t pick!

SlightlyMadScientist · 12/01/2009 17:19

I do allsorts...I am a molecular biologist (genes and DNA) but have some experience in biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology....

The only thing I steer clear of is physics...and I try and avoid chemistry when I can

SlightlyMadScientist · 12/01/2009 18:12

Who did you do your dev biology with?

I worked in teh developmental biology labs in Bath for a bit. Was lectured by Prof Slack.

LucyEllensmummy · 12/01/2009 18:38

if you cat me, i;ll tell you - i was at kent though

SlightlyMadScientist · 12/01/2009 19:18
