When I was living in very rural Spain, then dh's gradmother told me to put a hot poltice on my throat. We only managed to find a long sock (!) which we wrung out in hot water and then wrapped in a towel to keep the pillow dry. With a couple of aspirin to reduce the infamation it was a very successful energency measure.

Go to bed and sleep, hopefully it will be better in the morning.

I've always got some of that sore throat spray in for such emergencies. Makes your throat go numb, but tastes foul.

It's called Chloraseptic.

sympathies, I had a really horrible throat bug over Christmas and New year...lasted about nine days and it's still sore when i do a big yawn.

ibuprofen was the only thing that gave me any relief.

i tried gargling with soluble paracetomol, but the relief only lasted while I was doing the gargling.

i used to get loads of tonsilitus - horrible! i was adviced by a pharmacist to drink lots of fluids, gargle with soluble asprin.
