I have this and Dr gave me these tablets a week ago. Have been taking them as directed -three times a day, but the dizziness seems to have got worse, not better.

Anyone have experience of this or can explain why? Am thinking I may need to go back to the doctors..even a trip to the supermarket is miserable now as feel all 'swimmy'

TIA

Puss

Dh has this and I'm pretty sure has these tablets (hes away on business at the moment so can't check) He had a week of feeling much worse (was about to chuck them in the bin when suddenly he felt much better. Still has tinitus which is his main problem the dizziness and nausea is only during an acute attack (especially when run down its much worse)

HTH

are you sure you've got meniere's? I only have dizziness and nausea during an acute attack - the rest of the time it's 'just' tinnitus and feeling like my ear's blocked

i had betahistine for a few weeks when I was first diagnosed - felt swimmy for about a week and then got much better - until the next acute attack - during an acute attack though I can't do anything apart from lie down and try not to move my head

These tablets made me feel dizzier than I was prior to taking them. I see people referring to the feeling as "swimmy" and that is a perfect description. Curious to know whether any of the posters from a couple of years ago have had any luck finding relief from the dizziness...

I’ve just been prescribed these. There making me very tired ,so I get what your saying about feeling swimmy. I’m waiting for a hospital appointment at the ENT clinic after having a dizzy spell a couple of weeks ago.I won’t be able to continue with these if it doesn’t ease soon, as I wouldn’t be able to drive and I have caring responsibilities for my mum and grandchildren.

How long does Betahistine tablets take to work ? I have been taking them for three weeks and still feel very unbalanced, should I stop taking them? I have been unbalanced for around four years and it is really bad. I cannot go out by myself or do simple tasks anymore. No one has an answer to this, not even the specialist.

I had Menieres a few years ago and was on betahistine. My ENT consultant seemed to think they made a difference but I was never convinced. I had a grommet inserted in my ear and that helped. My ear sort of "burned itself out" and I have permanent hearing loss. However, the vertigo and tinnitus resolved. My doctor explained that the brain adjusts to the damaged ear.

I hardly think about it now but I do wear a hearing aid. I was told that a diagnosis of Menieres needs to include loss of hearing, vertigo, and tinnitus. All three symptoms are present. There are lots of other conditions that cause balance issues.

I do sympathise, it's a horrible feeling to be so unsteady.
