HELP: Anyone with medical knowledge - Had a funny turn in a shop earlier today

It was as if a cloud was coming over my head from up my neck and all the energy went out of me, and I felt as if I was going to keel over. Luckily DH was with me and I managed to get out of the shop and into the car. Then I started getting palpitations and a general sense of weakness and fast breathing.

I still feel as if I can't breathe as well as I would normally but am not breathless as such. I also still feel very weak and tired.

I have been on a 'diet' for the last 5 days eating as much fruit and veg as poss but it is pretty well balanced although I did cut our sugar and bread completely. I have also been using a rebounder (but only for about 5 mins a day). Incidentally I fell off the wagon this morning and had some toast and two cups of tea with sugar! Could this have contributed to this even though I have been feeling fine and this came completely out of the blue?

I was going to go straight to my GP but hesitate because I have been experiencing periods of lightheadedness for the last 3 years (they have done loads of tests and found nothing but an apparent sinus infection when they did a CAT scan 2 years ago but I am still getting them) so I worry that they think I'm a loon so hate going . They have put the lightheadedness down to anxiety which I don't agree with and I certainly was not anxious today!!

it sounds like a combination of low blood sugar and panic attack. i used to get this and found that an orange juice could even stave off a panic attack, but i was also very stressed and anxious.

you should go back to doc and talk about this. have they tested your blood sugar?

Thanks Fishie - I have been tested for diabetes and that was normal, although that was quite a while ago now.

This was so scary though - I really expected DH to have to call 999 before I realised that I was not going to lose consciousness . Have never had a panic attack before if that was what it is - have been panicking that I might have a brain tumour though what with the light headedness - have had loads of blood tests and apparently I am not deficient in anything!

I think I shall have to go back to my GP.

I have had a similar thing which started after I had an ear infection which affected my balance and made me feel lightheaded and made my vision fuzzy. It is a lot better a year on but it is definately made worse by any colds or sinus problems and also by stress and worry. Worth going to the doctor just for re-assurance I think. It is horrid to feel like that and really scary.

Its not unusual for people to call 999 for what turns out to be a panic attack. Please go back to the docs.
