It depends on your sensitivity to the active ingredients. I took it one night, and could hardly walk the following morning, let alone drive. I had to ask my Mum to drive me to the doctors.

It did knock me out but I am a lightweight maybe take a half dose and see how it works?

It knocks me out, and makes my reactions very slow and my thinking quite fuddled. Plus the effects often last into the following morning. Try taking a half dose, or if you have Medised in the house try that instead. I much prefer it to Night Nurse.

I would only take it if DH is in the house. Normally I wake if the DC turn over in bed( on a different floor) on night nurse I wouldn't stir if they got into bed next to me.
But When I have been sleeping badly with a heavy cold a solid nights sleep works wonders, so I just make sure DH is on duty

I take the Medised dose for an older child, but I don't take much medication at all so it has quite a strong effect on me. It dries up the mucus just as well as the Night Nurse though. It seems to wear off a bit quicker than NN as well so there isn't that problem with falling asleep at work.

One october night in 1987 I took some Night Nurse as I had a cold. As I drifted off to sleep I could hear the back gate banging & I thought, "hmm, it's windy tonight". I awoke late the next morning to discover that none of my house-mates had gone to college & that I had slept right through one of the worst storms in recent history...

I have real trouble sleeping when I have a cold and Night Nurse is the only thing that gets me through. I can often manage on half a dose and still find it hard to wake up. Just last week I felt so bad I had a full dose. Slept like a log and didnt properly come round until lunch time, kept dropping off to sleep in the chair! Luckily DH off work to help out with DCs.

Try half a dose. It will still help.

You know what, it has the opposite affect on me - makes me wake up in the night feeling all anxious.

Anyway, I would say nothing other than 'proper' drugs will knock you out while you're within hearing distance of your nippers. It may make you drowsy and therefore help you sleep, but it's not going to make you unconscious.

Good luck with the cold!

I'm glad you managed to sleep. Try taking the dose at least an hour before you want to sleep and have an early night tonight. I hope you're feeling better soon.
