Any suggestions as to what this rash could be?

DS2 and I both have similar symptoms

His rash is on his lower cheeks, either side of his mouth. It is scarlet and he says its not itchy but is sore. His face looks slightly swollen, but I'm not 100% sure about that. he is very grumpy, had a temp over the weekend, but not today.

Mine is between the bottom of my nose and top lip and on my chin. No where else. It has that numb feeling you get after getting an injection at the dentist - you know how it feels as it starts to wear off? well it's like that. Mine doesn't itch and its not sore. however my skin there does have an odd texture to it, almost rough.I ahve no other symptoms, I ahven't even had a cold!

Could yours be shingles? That can cause altered sensation like you describe initially. Not sure if you can get it on lip/chin though.

Would I not need to have been in contact with someone who had it though?

No if you have had chickenpox previously you can just get it esp if you are run down or have been ill.

CountessDracula · 05/01/2009 10:52

It is a bit complicated! You can't have shingles unless you have previously had chickenpox. You can't catch shingles per se but you can catch chickenpox from someone with shingles if you haven't previously had it

Is it on one side of your body?

saltiresaysSANTA · 05/01/2009 10:55

Well I ahd chicken pox when I was 6 and then again when I was 10.
It on both sides of my chin. I have been feeling run down and very tired, but I put that down to fatigue associated with Fibromyaliga.

I think shingles tends to present on one side or the other.

It couldn't just be severe dry skin/chapping from the cold weather could it? The skin round my nose is raw!

saltiresaysSANTA · 07/01/2009 07:56

Well the rash ahs gone and in it's place is very dry flaky skin. Nothing seems to be helping it, have even been putting DS1's aqueous cream on it to see if that would help. it looks awful, especially with make -up

My children have recently had some odd virus which we suspected might have been 'slapped cheek' (could be wrong though). Just a mild temp and then a red rash-bit on face and then on torso. The younger you are the worse it is and my four year old had a really itchy torso, now the skin is dry and flaky like you describe, so could be something similar?
