Lower back pain..can't sit down for long...and I'm not pregnant!!

I'm just getting over a cold - temperature, sneezes etc, and when I couldn't sleep in any position except my front last night, took a couple of painkillers to get me through the night. It's like I'm pregnant with pressure on my bowels when I sit/lie(which btw aren't working wonderfully, but then we all eat a load of junk at Xmas ) and it's a bit like period pains on my lower back so I can't sit for too long.
I've searched the net - come across crohns, ibs, diverticular, but nothing fits - I don't have a distended tummy! Then as I was sitting at the computer I came over all faint which of course then made me cry .I know I have low BP.
Maybe I just spent too much time in bed (all yesterday...bliss... except I felt c*).
Has anyone any ideas??? Much appreciated

When I had something like that it turned out to be a kidney infection. I'd ring NHS direct if I were you. Hope you feel better soon.

Will a kidney infection sort itself out? I've been drinking loads of hot blackcurrant - coffee tastes vile atm!! I just can't work out why it's impacting on my lower back

It does sound like a kidney infection

It won't sort itself, no
you need to get to a doc

CountessDracula · 03/01/2009 15:16

or it could be muscle spasm or something to do with your facet joints?

bobs · 03/01/2009 15:29

Thanks CountessDracula - have googled facet joints. Unfortunately the suggested positions to alleviate the pain - ie lying curled up or on back with legs bent don't work - tried that last night!!

How are you doing bobs?

flippyflop · 06/01/2009 11:33

sounds like Kidney infection/stones.. its exactly how I was when I had mine (both at same time) I drove to my mums 200 miles away with a hot water bottle in my back before I finally collapsed in agony up there & went to A & E in the end & ended up with a 4 day stay (not trying to worry you). Your kidneys are in your back bobs - that's why it hurts there.

Please go to doctors, if you haven't already. If it is an untreated infection you are potentially damaging your kidneys.

Hope all is well.. let us know!
