Okay, have had pain in my right side for 4 days. Should I go to GP?

It feels very sore if I touch it - it's just at the bottom of the ribcage, nothing visible, just something inside hurts a lot.

In the day it isn't really noticeable unless I touch it or a twings if I lift ds2 awkwardly or bend/twist etc.

At night it hurts when I lie on that side, not really if I lie on my back, or the other side - but I am passing ds2 back and forth over me when he feeds, which does hurt. In fact any movement lying down seems to hurt.

Has anyone had this? I think it must be either muscular or else is possibly something like my liver or whatever is there?

Could it be a kidney if the other side is Ok?

I can't find anything about why my liver would hurt. Apparently that only happens if you are severely ill with hepatitis or something, and I don't drink and have had various blood tests recently which didn't flag up anything like that. Only thing that cameup was low white cells, I thought that was vecause I had a cold at the time.

Thanks for any thoughts.

thats ok
has it ocme on all of a sudden? i know you said you have had it for 4 days now but did it just come on one day?

Flightattendant7 · 03/01/2009 15:43

I'm not sure - it sort of crept up. It wasn't too bad at first, just a twinge, but then it became quite painful and stayed like that for a few days. It was yesterday and last night that finished me off I think - must have done too much.

Is it very sudden with gallstones?

Flightattendant7 · 03/01/2009 15:44

Btw - it has eased off a lot since this morning, now. I can move around and so on if I avoid certain positions or movements.

Last night/early this morning it was agony.

i think maybe lying down doesn't help.

lizandlulu · 03/01/2009 15:53

with my gall stones they were sort of bought of pain, lasting anythign from an hour to all day at the very worst.

could it be snything to do with the way you carry your dc's? i always carry dd on one hip and that caused alot of pain on one side. when i sat down i sort of ceased up on that size and it hurt for weeks til i started to take cod liver oil talbets. i didnt think it would make much of a differnece but it is 95% better and doesnt hurt til i carry her along way which i try to aviod now.

just a thought

Flightattendant7 · 03/01/2009 16:02

ah, well if it was a day at the longest that might rule it out - thank goodness. Thankyou for making me feel better!

Yes, I am thinking more and more that it is the way I do things physically. I will often end up trying to carry a child at the same time as pushing his buggy (because he cries to get out of it) which makes me lean badly to one side.
Also things like carrying him while trying to cook or wash up etc.

I think when ds1 was little i had some bad muscle pain in my shoulder from pushing a very heavy buggy with him in. I had forgottne about that, it should have taught me a lesson!

It's funny how you feel much better once you know you're not actually about to kick the bucket, isn;t it.

lizandlulu · 03/01/2009 16:15

again with my gall stones i would feel fine inbetween the attacks of pain, when it did come on it would last for hours or a day or something like that, but once it passed i felt fine, so if you have been in pain all the time for days, its looking less likely to be gall stones.

i am not very good at explaining myself, sorry if it reads rubbish

Flightattendant7 · 03/01/2009 16:23

God no, not rubbish at all
You're very clear.

Yes I hope that's the case, I haven't had any time when the pain has really gone, just times I wasn;t aggravating it iyswim.

I'll let you know anyway whatever happens. I might need your advice some more if it does turn out to be gallstones!!

Thanks xx

Flightattendant7 · 04/01/2009 07:35

Just to say it is somewhat diminished this morning - took paracetamol last night and got some sleep!

It's still there but not nearly as bad as yesterday.

Thanks again for being such a star L&L and everyone x

lizandlulu · 04/01/2009 08:31

good, hope you have a good day

lisad123 · 04/01/2009 16:32

do get checked out asap. I had gallstones and was in pain forna good week before I went. I had pain most of the time but was worse in the evening. I also noticed it wrapped around my side tpo my back.
I was so late getting there I damaged my kindeys, gone yellow and had pancrestist, and hence spend 3 weeks in hospital and nearly died from multi organ failure Best to be safe. You'd be surprised what pain us woman can bear

Flightattendant7 · 04/01/2009 17:22

Eek

Thanks Lisa

Ok will go to Gp tomorrow.

Flightattendant7 · 06/01/2009 11:53

Just to let you know, I couldn't get through for an appt yesterday but got one this morning asit was still quite sore. After waiting for an hour I eventually got seen, she had a poke around, and said she thought it was a bruised rib or similar. She didn't think it was anything more sinister and just recommended painkillers. Although she did give me a bottle to wee in in case it doesn't ease off, as she thought it could just be kidney related...but that's apparently more back than side.

So I'm slightly reassured but thankyou for all your concern and helpful advice. At least if I do develop gallstones in the future I will know what to look for!!

lizandlulu · 06/01/2009 12:20

good i am glad it is not anything awful. (well you know what i mean!)

i was sick yestarday and while i was retching over the toilet i thought of you it reminded me of when i had my gallstones
