Ive been on 80 of propanalol now for 2 1/2 weeks. I am totally knocked off on them to the point of feeling that ive slept through Christmas.
all i want to do is lie down and rest or sleep.
My blood pressure was really high (230/117 ) so i need to be on them.
I feel better in so far as my head doesnt hurt anymore, but my heart keeps missing beats. GP said it would help the missed beats which were prob anxiety , but now my pulse rate has gone from over 100bpm to about 50 im much more aware of them-keep thinking my heart is going to stop-and it does for a beat or 2 about every minute most evenings.
Just wondered if any one else knows the ins and outs of how beta blockers affecrt you and if i`ll wake up soon or will wade through this fog all next year 1 x

When you say 80 do you mean 80mg?

Tbh I didn't know such a high dose existed (I was on Atenolol for a while, much lower dose though and just felt calm compared to normal)

Hi Yes i am on 80mgs .
I didn`t think that was high as it says in the pack 80mgs for blood pressure ?

Hi, I don't think 80 is high for propranalol. I was on that dose but for migraine. The side effects do wear off. I was very tired for the first couple of weeks but then it gradually got better. Sorry can't help about the pulse rate etc. Sure someone more knowledeable will be around soon.

I was on 80mg of propanalol for social anxiety disorder. I cant remember having any side effects at all. It may take awhil for the side effects to calm down maybe. If you're worried go back to your GP. Sorry I cant be of more help.

MommyHasaHeadache · 29/12/2008 19:38

I take it too for migraines, but have no side affects. Maybe you should go back to your doctor - these side affects you are having don't sound very pleasant - maybe there is something else they can put you on?

SANTAsauruswrecks · 29/12/2008 20:18

The reason your heart rate has slowed is the effect of the propanolol, it's also what is making you feel so tired.Beta blockers are no longer recommended as a first line treatment for hypertension - have a look at this I'd suggest going back to your GP to get your medication reviewed. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks thats a really useful link santa.
I think he chose this particular medication because i have a tendancy to hyperthyroid and he thought it would reduce my taccycardia and did actually say that it wasn`t a first line choice but that prob better in my case-do you think my now almost too slow heart rate is whats making me so very very sleepy. ?
