I had one of those cold/chesty cough bugs that's going round about 5 weeks ago. Since then I've had a really chesty cough accompanied by what feels like a bit more effort to breathe than normal and a cottonwool feeling in my chest/throat. I went to the doctors and was given an inhaler but it doesn't reallywork (not helped by the fact that inhaling it makes me cough) The night before last I was up coughing til 5 until I was eventually sick I was going to go to the walk in yesterday but when I woke up my cough was a bit drier so I left it. Today cough half chesty and half hacking. Still feel wheezy and a bit weak. This afternoon my head's starting throbbing and when I cough it feels like there's a big pressure in my head. It doesn't seem like sinusitis. What the hell is wrong with me? Should I be seeing a doctor or just riding it out? I've been miserable today and shouted at DD when she's just being a normal toddler I don't want to be like this.

I'm the same. Last dregs of a really bad flu.
No advice but lots of sympathy.

I would go back to the doctor next week if you can - especially if the inhaler isn't working.

I had a chest infection a couple of months ago and have had a cough on and off since and have had antibiotics, some syrup stuff and steriods (I'm asthmatic) which finally cleared it up. Then I got another one accompanied by a sore throat which has been bugging me for the past week!

Seriously though - go back to the doctor next week. Even if they can't give you anything they can listen to your chest and make sure it's ok.

In the meantime you can try vicks on your chest, olbas oil on a tissue tucked into your pillow/top, menthol crystals in hot water to inhale and cough medicine to try to ease the stuff on your chest and make you feel a bit better. And plenty of warm drinks (honey and lemon in hot water is my fav) to sooth your throat.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks DP's at work every day now until 5th Jan so no luck there! He did let me have a lie in yesterday but as I'd been up til 5 it didn't help much. I just feel completely drained, worse than when sleep deprived. It didn't feel fluey when I had it, was still able to do things. Sorry you're ill too FL, hope you're better soon. I just got out of breath grating carrots Not exactly taxing! Even getting the washing out of the machine is an effort and it's getting me down. DD hasn't had a bath for 2 nights as I haven't been able to face lifting her in and out. Will have to brave it tonight though I think.

xpost am. I only went to the docs on 22nd, she said it just sounded like a viral wheeze. I'm not asthmatic afaik. Sounds like you went through the mill with that one! I've been putting vicks on my chest and taking a spoonful of honey. It doesn't stop the cough but the honey really soothes my throat. Will try some warm drinks too and see if they help. Sure I've got some olbas oil about too, will have a look. Hope you're better soon am

{{{Hugs}}} I've had the orrible flu bug thing too, since begining of Nov, when dd1 got drugs for it and I didn't! since then dd2 has also had an inhaler for it, and I still got given nothing, so can totally sympathise with you. The thing that has really helped clear me up in the last 4 days, is Echinecha, I've been taking Metatone tonic with every meal too, but since I started on the Echinecha (15 drops in some water 1st thing) a few days ago it really has helped with my coughing, I'm still doing it, just not half as much and I'm starting to feel human again too. Get some from the chemist and give it a go.

Thanks Frizbe, I'll try some of that too. I'll try anything to shift this!

bump how's it going, someone I know took themselves to A&E last night when they couldn't stop coughing, and they got given drugs to help! which have done the job for now! (it wasn't on her cheast either)
