Severe jaundice and liver failure - how long can someone cope with this?

Have posted in berevement but thought I would try general health too.

MIL has terminal cancer - its been nearly 4 months now...started in bile duct with secondaries on the liver and we think its in the pancreas now.

She has become very very jaundiced in the last week, along with extreme lethargy, sleeping most of the day, decreased urine out put and rattly breathing.

Obviously the jaundice indicates her liver is packing up - how long are we looking at for this next stage? Days? Weeks?

Any advice appreciated

Oh Puss

I wish I could answer your question with total accuracy as to a timespan but no one can really.

If her breathing is rattly and all the other symptoms you have described it does sound like she is in the final stages of illness but it is IMPOSSIBLE to give an exact time as every person is individual.

Wishing you and your family great strength at this time xxx

I'm focusing too much on timescales aren't I...just my way of getting some control I guess...
