Dieting whilst pregnant

I know it's probably not recommended, but is there any safe weight loss diet you can follow whilst pregnant? Obviously I do not want to cause any harm to my baby, but I'm going into a pregnancy overweight and seem to be putting weight on quite rapidly. I am only 10 weeks and already my work trousers are feeling a little tight. I am absolutely terrified of ballooning and being huge afterwards. I have always found it hard to lose weight because I have polycystic ovaries and therefore too much insulin in my system, which then makes me store fat and makes it very difficult to lose weight. If I can just minimise my weight gain during this pregnancy it means I won't have such a huge battle afterwards. My weight can make me feel quite miserable and I'm worried about the consequences this can cause me afterwards. I'm about 3 stone overweight at the moment.

Please don't think I would ever do anything to endanger the life of my baby - I am a vegetarian and eat lots of fruit and vegetables and follow a fairly healthy diet, but even so, can't seem to shift the weight I have put on in the past and am worried about how much worse things could get.

just keep active and eat sensibly, worry about the weight later - obviously don't stuff your face mindlessly as this is bad for the baby too

do you swim or cycle or anything?

I used to do aerobic DVDs mainly, as well as pilates but am worried about jumping around all over the place now!

it is a worry isn't it, however some people would find their normal trousers too tight before 10wks and not be overweight (hands up)

i'm always amazed when i see women who don't look like they've put on any weight....they must still be very active or something. i'm 28wks with third baby and i just get so hungry that i have to eat.i try and eat lots of raw vegetables/steamed vegetables, but sometimes i need that big carb boost and i have to eat...it is annoying if its later in the evening.

most pregnancy books have good guides about healthy eating and if your a veggie i imagine you eat lots of pulses etc (ooh just fancied a big plate of puy lentils with roasted peppers, fennel and squash....thats got to be healthy right??? needs some creme friache though!)

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention - I'm hungry ALL THE TIME at the moment. I NEVER snack usually, but am finding I have to at the moment. Am going for healthy snacks most of the time (though my cravings for bread and potatoes are sometimes impossible to resist) but it's difficult at work where we don't have the best facilities.
