Hi ladies. Im abit concerned. Before you ask, I really dont think I am pregnant. My periods are alway irregular. In june I went on the pill for about a month and a half but stopped halfway through second packet as it made me depressed and i started bleeding. Had a period then for about a week. Have had nothing since (which stupidly I didn't write on my calender when it was but guessing august time.)

I have always suffered like this but not normally this long. I think tomorrow I will buy a test just so I can definately rule that out.

Spoke to doc years ago about it but he just said there is nothing he can do!

How old are you?

npg1 · 14/12/2008 20:42
  1. Cant remember what they were like when I was younger but started around 11yrs old, always very heavy. Had 2 children but they were like this before DC. Always very heavy too (when i do finally have one), I often think im about to come on but then it doesnt happen.

Hi there
I would get this checked out. Have you recently come off the pill, as this could be a reason? I didn't have a period for 8 months and after that they were very irregular, I fell pregnant and went for my first scan to discover I had a tumor on my fallopian tubes. Don't mean to scare you but I would go to my doctor and get it checked out.

I have got two friends who hardly ever have periods, both of whom had been told by doctors that they wouldn't be able to have children and they both have two children,

also neither of them knew that they were pregnant until after 4mths,
so I would recommend getting a test

If the GP is as unhelpful this time as he was previously I'd find another GP practice to attend.

Such problems are often caused by hormonal imbalances; in this regard a condition called polycystic ovaries is a common culprit. As this problem is long standing also this is another indicator of there being a hormonal imbalance. A blood test can be done to see what your hormone levels are like and a blood test should also check your levels of thyroid hormone.

If your GP is unhelpful ask for a referral to a gynae. If necessary and you can afford it, go privately and you could be seen within a week or two inmost cases.

Sexual health clinic are good and will refer you if necessary. I went to one, after the GP kept dismissing my symptoms and they referred me straight away.

Private treatment is fantastic if you can afford it. You would have to pay around £100 for the initial consultation; up to £150 for blood tests and around £400 for a scan.
