How long it will last?

Or the worst bit at least... he's on the sofa temp of over 100 and shivering.

Has anyone else's DCs had it?

My ds has had a flu type thing. Hard to say if flu or cold because he's only 16m, but his temp went up to 103 which was scary and I was told by NHS line that if a child has fever for 48hrs, they need to be seen asap. His fever lasted 24hrs but has had cough, blocked nose and general cold symptoms for nearly 2 weeks.

mankymummy · 07/12/2008 15:46

thats reassuring littleboyblue... 24 hours of this sound much better than a week !

But, mine wasn't shivering so not sure if it is flu.........
Hope yours gets better soon.

Has he got a cough?

My DD has had a temp and a cough for 8 days. GP said that was normal as it is a really nasty virus.

mankymummy · 07/12/2008 17:27

yes he has, a really horrible one.

oh god, 8 days...?

is it just a case of keeping an eye, paracetamol and nurofen?

thanks artichokes... any info really gratefully received, am on my own with him and climbing the walls, and poor love is not himself at all.

Everybody I know has it or has had it.

10 days approximately here but the worst bit for about 2-3 days.

The cough and temperature seem to be the worst bit and I know of a lot of people who have been getting better and then ended up with secondary chest/sinus/ear infections from doing too much too soon.

littleboyblue · 07/12/2008 17:49

I haven't been giving paracetamol or anything like that because as far as I know, it's been runny nose and cough, so he's had cough syrup whenever I can get the lid off and some medised if he's had trouble sleeping. Gonna take ds to doctors in week to check cough hasn't travelled onto chest as it does sound a bit nasty

mankymummy · 07/12/2008 17:53

Thanks everyone.

Snow... I will watch out for that, DS is prone to ear infections.

Thanks.

Hi - we are all getting over it. took a god week to be honest with my eldest ending up n abs in the end. the cough sounds so awful I know. They just seem t be absolutely exhausted from it....... they are still both really lacking enery and only just getting their apetites back - its a really nasty one. Think I migh be off the docs this week as my sinus' are really sore - wake up every morning with face ache.... bad news!!! get well soon though.

mankymummy · 07/12/2008 18:36

yep DS has been asleep on and off all afternoon, it seems its all he wants to do.

managed to get some fluids and medised down him about an hour ago but he's conked out again now.

he wont eat anything but he's quite a solid little thing so not too worried he will waste away in the next couple of days !!!
