Chicken pox incubation period

A friend of mine's child had chicken pox last week - we're going on a plane shortly and I don't want to expose 10 month old DS to the virus so that he's too poorly to fly.

Would it be safe for me to meet my friend (who wouldn't be with her child) along with DS this week? Or should I postpone until next week?

tHE INCUBATION IS 20 days but they are infectious BEFORE the spots until scabbed over

had your friend had cp? if so she wont be carrying it, if not she could have it until spots come out

ah - rats. Will need to check in that case - thanks littleducks. Will ask her tomorrow whether she's had it. Am thinking it might be an idea to postpone for a bit.

they are contagious for a couple of days before the spots come out until they scab over which is normally 5-7 days afterwards. You will be ok as long as your friend has had chicken pox when she was a child as she will not (normally) get it again. After exposure it is 10-21 days before the spots will appear which is the incubation period
