from top to bottom. I had it about 3 weeks ago but it's flared up again. It's really uncomfortable - is it anything to worry about?

cramping can be caused by a number of things.
but sometimes, you can mistake cramp for sciatic pains.
when you get the cramp, how far does it go up, into the hip or stop at the top of the leg muscle?
if it goes past and into the hip area, it may be the sciatic nerve has been damaged or pinched. this can happen as (especially women) get older and who have had babies as the tendons sometimes do not go back into place and tighten up after birth leading to minor joint misalignments which can in time cause the sciatic nerve to be pinched by the movement of your hip/legs and cause a pain, often stinging or tingling right the way down to the ankle.
the other main cause of cramping is either high blood pressure or lack of magnesium but the high BP can be caused by low mag so it may be a combo of the two. I would shy away from this at the moment as this type of cramp often is either in the lower muscle only with the occasional increase into the thigh muscle.
