Sorry - TMI. Boil on labia question...

MrsMuddle · 02/12/2008 22:18

I'm in agony. I have a boil on my labia, caused I think by wearing itchy pants and too-tight jeans on Saturday.

It's sore when I walk and sore when I sit down, and I can't even see it properly, because the only portable mirror I have is in a make-up compact. DH has had a look and says it's very swollen with a yellow head on it. (lovely!)

I can't get a doc appoitment till next Tuesday, but I'm delivering training on Monday to 15 people who have paid a lot to be there, and I can't let them down. I also can't train when I'm in this much pain.

Is there anything I can get over the counter? I don't think I need something to draw out the pus (told you it was TMI!), but something to get rid of the infection.

There is a drop-in sexual health clinic nearby - could I go there or would they laugh at me?

Please answer - I feel pathetic, but it's really sore.

go to drop in clinic. they'll sort you out.
you cant just keep it till tues, some things have to be sorted right away and i think this qualifies!

TipsyFairydifferentID · 02/12/2008 22:21

I've had this- and didn't bother with the doc, I popped it myself as it was a bank holiday Saturday. Does it feel like there's a hard lump?

Nappiesgalore · 02/12/2008 22:22

and they never laugh in those places.
i spect it gets boring after a while

MrsMuddle · 02/12/2008 22:36

No, there's no hard lump - it feels like an open wound. I will go to drop-in. Thanks. Just wasn't sure if it was only for emergency contraception etc.

I have had one of these two so your not alone I used a needle heated over the gas hob and stuck it in the squeezed (it bloody hurt) but I am too much of a wuss to go to the docs or a clinic! it felt so much better afterwards though

changednamethingyforthis · 02/12/2008 22:55

Get it seen, in case it is one of these

NorthernLurker · 02/12/2008 22:59

That link - the size of an egg!!!???!!!

What a nightmare! OP hope you don't have one of those cyst things and recover v soon!

hester · 02/12/2008 23:05

Ouch, you poor thing. I have two friends who had a similar affliction and both needed medical attention. So I think the STD clinic - or A&E - might be worth a try.

hester · 02/12/2008 23:06

SORRY - shouldn't have said STD clinic - obv mean sexual health clinic! And they won't turn a hair, honestly.

SparklyBaubleFeast · 02/12/2008 23:37

unless it is necessary of course hester

choosyfloosy · 02/12/2008 23:55

people who work in GUM are lovely, go there. You poor thing.

onceinalifetime · 03/12/2008 00:20

MM, I had one each time I was pregnant. Another option is to put a hot, wet towel on it as a compress and it quite often goes down, if only temporarily.

lulu41 · 03/12/2008 15:24

had one many many years ago called a Bartholins Cyst - went to A&E and they lanced it had to stay in overnight though - fond memories !!! Good luck

loopylou6 · 03/12/2008 15:52

if i was you i'd get a very hot bath and i bet ya it bursts it, then there will be no pain as the pain is caused by the pressure of the fluid IYSWIM, when its burst though, be sure you rub on some antibacterial cream every now and then to save it from getting infected

hester · 03/12/2008 20:38

SparklyBauble, this is no laughing matter

hoxtonchick · 03/12/2008 20:42

i had a bartholin cyst & they operated to get rid of it. i went to a&e, would reccommend it.

MrsMuddle · 03/12/2008 23:04

I think it might be getting smaller [deluded wimp-out emoticon]!

Was on my way to sexual health drop-in today when school phoned to say they had no heating and were closing. And the school is closed tomorrow too so I won't get there till Friday.

I'm going to try a hot bath, but santaslittlehelpersmum's hot needle story made my buttocks clench!

Try adding salt to the bath water (quite a lot).

hollyandnoah · 03/12/2008 23:15

Hey, I was unwell once and all my fingertips were puss filled around the nails. (horrible!!) I got magnesuim sulphate paste (im sure - it was about 8 years ago though) from the docs, it looked like PVA glue. But it worked.
