Oh joy, I seem to have developed an allergy to my own poo. TMI alert (sorry).

From nowhere, I have developed a sore itchy bum if there is even the slightiest smidgen of poo round my bum. If I do not wipe away every millimetre of poo after a bowel movement I know about it for the rest of the day, lots of soreness and itching. I havent changed any of my habits (still having regular showers!) havent changed washing powder or started using new shower gel etc but from nowhere seem to be allergic to my own poo. If I wiped away every scrap of the stuff with a wet wipe everythings normally OK for a bit but I seemed to be developing a cycle where my arse has to be scrupulously clean (ie not a shred of poo within 20 miles of it...!)otherwise the itching starts. The skin around my bum has now become so sensitivised that even my dh's sperm sets the itching off...

Has anyone ever come across this before, or have experience of this? I just dont understand why this is happening to me! Sick of carrying wet wipes around with me especially as my dd is no longer a baby so I have no excuse!

could it be reacting with the chemicals in the wipes?

LeakyDAISYcal · 01/12/2008 18:52

probably a bit personal, but do you wear thongs? I developed a reaction to knicker elastic and wearing thongs causes me to get very very itchy and sore in the crack region. I can only wear shorts type knickers now as even minis etc set it off.

also second not using the wet wipes, as you may have developed some kind of contact dermatitis from them.

thisisyesterday · 01/12/2008 18:55

the wipes may have made you more sensitive and thus more prone to getting sore??

I would try using cotton wool and water or something for a little while and then going back to regular old bog roll and seeing if there is any change

Could it be minor piles? I have them after having DD and mine manifests as itchiness after a poo. I ignore it and it goes away after a little while. I definitely wouldn't use the wipes as they can be quite irritating.

And definately don't use anit-bacertial wipes like DH did lst week - they made his bum bleed.

CharCharGabor · 01/12/2008 20:14

Eeeek, just read that Lynette. Yowch!

If you have recently suffered a cold/flu thing your immune system may have taken a pounding an be overreacting to fecal bacteria.

In any case - Sudocrem on your bum for five days after each poop should help the skin heal and make the problem go away.

Either that or you may have worms (don't worry most people get them at some point!)
