Has anyone else had children who have been hit with a nasty tummy bug recently?

My DS2 came down with it early Thursday evening & suffered really badly (being sick from 5pm-3am, then the other end), and DS1 was apparently sick all last night (they have been with their dad this w/e)

Has anyone else had children struck down with this recently? If so, how long before they were 100% & ok for school?

Kept DS2 off on Friday, but he has had tummy pains over the weekend, so not sure whether to keep him off tomorrow too, just to be on the safe side.

it sounds like the dreaded norovirus. wash hands carefully and 48hrs before you send them back to school.

I have been very strict with my handwashing. Praying I don't get it as I am a single parent & have nobody around next week to help out.

We all had it 3 weeks ago, i'm a single parent and was a nasty time, also had to cancel DS's 3rd birthday party, i kept DD off school for 48 hours after she started feeling better.

It's awful trying to cope with it alone isn't it, Kyrasmummy? Did you go down with it too? That is my big fear, as I worry about how I will cope if I get ill too.

I have kept DS home today. Thankfully he seems a lot brighter this morning.

My ds had this last wednesday night. Was fine in the morning. Kept him home for 24 hours (as school policy) and was fine to return on Friday and has been okay since.

Oh yes - DS1 was sick about 6 times on Sat from 7pm til the early hours. Luckily for me I was away for the night so DH had to deal with him! Not himself yesterday and then sick again in the evening. Off school today, still not 'right' but no sick!!!!

Horrid isn't it?

stealthsquiggle · 01/12/2008 10:03

DS was complaining of tummy ache this morning - but he has been doing that for a few days, and it hasn't developed into anything more than 'my tummy hurts'

When I said that if he didn't eat breakfast he couldn't go to school and wouldn't be at the last rehearsal for concert tomorrow, he choked down about 20% of his normal amount of rice krispies.

[sigh] I'm going to get a call today, aren't I?

Pinkchampagne · 01/12/2008 10:05

It's really horrid. DS1 was sick on & off from 3am to 3pm yesterday, and his dad had to deal with it as they were staying there. I had DS2 being sick all Thursday evening & he has just gone back to school today.

Yep, out of 17 of my close family, only 2 escaped, (my mum and brother live alone) the rest of us all suffered badly, my 12 month old cousin and 77 year old nan ended up in hospital, the rest of us just felt awful for at least 3 days, dd1 (3) had 4 days off school as everytime I thought it had gone she threw up again its horrible, easily the worst stomach bug I have ever had, the amount of washing I had to do afterwards was also shocking!! dd1 and dd2s appetites are still not back to normal btw.

Pinkchampagne · 01/12/2008 10:14

OMG lanismum, it really did hit your family badly! Keeping everything crossed that I don't get it now! It is by far the worst bug DS2(5) has ever had. He normally has bugs mildly, but not this time.

Got everything crossed you dont get it too, as I found it impossible to look after the girls, dp had to come home from work early, he then needed 3 days off to recover himself, grim! in our experience its very very catchy, we all had it within 24 hours of each other, so you might have been lucky and escaped.

whyme2 · 01/12/2008 10:38

My 2 DDs were off school all last week with it and ds still has a dodgy tummy and nasty nappies.

Pinkchampagne · 01/12/2008 11:18

Seems there is rather a lot of it around then. Hadn't heard of many people nearby having this bug so didn't think it was doing the rounds...how wrong I was!

My ds has had the runs for 2 days now. Seems to be slowing down. But he was otherwise well in himself.

kyrasmummy · 01/12/2008 12:34

I had it to, DS had it first, then me, then DD. It was awful, it started while DD was at school and i just preyed i wasn't sick in the playground fetching her , I had it both ends thankfully the kids didn't.
