When did you have the jab?

You can get flu by the way, there are different strains of it, the jab can not sort them all out.

Yes.

vaccine offers increased protection but not immunity.flu virus wont give you flu(doesnt contain any live virus) but some people experience symptoms an immunological response

I feel like that, think its just a thoroughly horrid cold/cough - there seem to be extra lots of them around atm. But although I feel achey/shivery, I have no fever....so mine is definitely not flu.

I had the flu jab one year (had lowered immunity at the time) and caught it anyway, but it was much milder than dp's version, lower temps, lasted less time, etc.

Hope yo'ure better soon, and that its NOT flu....(and isn't it a bit early in the season for flu to be hitting, or am I out of date?!)

NotQuiteCockney · 28/11/2008 08:18

You can still get flu - the thing is, the flu that's around every year is different. When they prep the jab, they guess at what varieties will be big this year, and the jab protects you from those ones - not from any flu.

Yes, but GP told me that it does probably afford a measure of protection against other flu viruses too - just not as much. They're not really sure though, so its all a bit vague
