And it's crap and I'm fed up. I'm ratty with the kids, I sleep all th time, I can't be arsed to cook properly, am a single mum, and my left tit feels like someone is sticking a knife in it.

Poor you, I've heard that's very painful. Don't worry about cooking properly, just try and get as much rest as possible, and I hope you get better quicker then what they say.

Blackduck · 23/11/2008 09:20

Oh Colditz much sympathy - my dad had shingles and it was horrific, not just the pain, but just how generally lousy it makes you feel. Anyone around to support you?

JackieNo · 23/11/2008 09:21

OH no, poor you .

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/11/2008 09:24

Sounds grim colditz. Sympathy.

DisasterArea · 23/11/2008 09:27

ouch. haven't had it but know it can be immensly painful.
have you any help for the children?

saadia · 23/11/2008 09:28

That's horrible, don't worry about cooking you need your rest. My dss lived on crisps and chocolate one time when I was too ill to get up. Are you allowed painkillers?

Colditz · 23/11/2008 09:29

I'm ok. Draggin myself around being a misery.

Worst of it is, I got offered a job last week and have been too ill to even go nd take me details in and now I'm worried the will withdraw the offer.

The ex comes up some evenings to help with them, He's being really good with them actually, but I hate not having the energy to mother them properly, they are only small, only 5 and 2. they fight constantly and ds2 is up and down all night too.

Have they given you anything for the pain Colditz? My sister had it last year and like you felt very ill and was in a lot of pain. The doctor gave her Amitriptylene, which is an AD but is also used for nerve pain like shingles. It helped her a lot.

WingsofaAngel · 23/11/2008 10:10

Sorry your feeling so ill.
Can ex have the children overnight at all to give you a proper rest.

Colditz · 23/11/2008 10:26

ex lives in a bedsit so can't have them overnight, and despite me going on at him for 2 years to sort somewhere out, still hasn't done so. It's really not good enough, but I haven't got the energy to argue about it, and much as I hate to say it, I need to keep him sweet.

Did you see my post about the painkillers colditz? They may help you too

EachPeachPearMum · 23/11/2008 14:41

Oh Colditz- so sorry to hear this. Hope you're on the mend quickly.

smellen · 23/11/2008 14:58

((hugs)) I've had it, and it is horrible and a bit scarey cause you hear such horror stories about it, but if you are younger (i.e. in your twenties/thirties/early forties) it should be less severe. Have you been to your GP? Has s/he prescribed antiviral drugs? If you can get these into you ASAP you have more chance of it not lasting so long.

Sorry to hear you having such a sh*t time.

Re the job, if you have a written offer, surely it would be illegal to withdraw an offer of employment based on short term illness? Could you ask your CAB for advice on this?

MmeLindt · 23/11/2008 16:34

Sorry to read this, shingles is a bugger. My mum had it a good few years ago.

Can you get a referral to a pain clinic? My mum got some good advice there. They also gave her a TENS machine that helped a lot with the pain.

The most important thing that she found was to rest as much as possible. I realise that is is going to be difficult with 2 small DCs. Do you have any help?

Also, if you have a good day, don't decide to wash the curtains/spring clean etc.

WingsofaAngel · 24/11/2008 21:37

How are you today ?

Colditz · 25/11/2008 17:36

The pain seems to be easing a little (fingers crossed) but ds2 is ill and has had me up and down for 2 nights running. I did drop my details into my new boss though, via the back door so as not to contaminate the residents!

And Ds1 was hospitalised at 2am this morning, and I haven't slept at all.

Rest is supposed to be 'the' cure for shingl;es.

Ha. Ha. Ha.

He's ok now (he's asleep)
