Mouth ulcers - can anyone suggest anything that might help?

I have had mouth ulcers for about 10 days now, and they are driving me loopy. Also horrible taste in my mouth that makes me want to swallow a lot.

I've tried Iglu [sp?] paste, rinsinf with salt water (ouch!), teething gel, lots of mouthwash, coldsore stuff, gum disease gel (had it lying around), all to no avail.

Ulcers on tongue, btw, so very difficult to apply creams, potions, lotions to them.

are they definitely ulcers? not oral thrush which can be similar, also very painful?

corsodyl mouthwash is what the dr gave ds2 for his recurrent ulcers.

ohdearwhatamess · 22/11/2008 16:45

Don't think it is thrush - can't scrape the spots away.

i've just finished chemo and had awful mouth ulcers - the BEST things was ORALMEDIC - its expensive at almost £6 but it bloody works!! Ulcers were pain free immediately and vanished days later.
HTH X

Oooh that sounds promising. Hope Boots stocks it.

i got it from Boots - they also do their own version which is slightly cheaper

Huffpuff - just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for recommending oralmedic. I got some yesterday, applied before bed, and have woken up pain free. I can eat and drink again! Fantastic stuff (bloomin' painful to apply though)!

There is another one called Adocortyl which is a paste - best thing I have found so far for ulcers (including on tongue). But will now try oralmedic too.

Did you have a metallic taste by any chance?

NotQuiteCockney · 24/11/2008 13:07

Taste sounds like ketosis? Maybe?

I have used Boots sore mouth pastiles, but will watch out for Oralmedic, next time I get a bad attack.

Weird taste, yes. Not sure I'd say it was metallic. Felt like my mouth was covered in a layer of mucous.

This oralmedic stuff is acid - burns the ulcer away instantly.

glad it helped! I know its expensive but i will pay anything to be pain free and to be able to eat and drink!! X
