Orgon Donation: In memory of my friend I would like to ask you to please consider signing the organ donation register

My best friend's husband died a year ago tomorrow whilst waiting for an emergency liver transplant. He would have been 40 next month. He died 2 weeks after first feeling ill. - he had a very rare and acute liver condition.

For 48 hours he was at the top of the list for a new liver but sadly he didn't survive. I was at the hospital when he passed away and that dreadful experience will stay with me for life.

I can't help but wonder if more people had signed up to the register, would he still be alive. This funny, generous, gregarious man who was so well loved could well have died needlessly.

So, in Gwynne's memory, I would like to ask those of you who would willingly donate their organs, please sign the register and talk to your family.

I do not wish to preach about organ donation. I just wanted to do something in memory of my friend.

Thank you

the register

FlirtyThirty · 21/11/2008 15:47

I too am on the register, as is DH, but bumping in support of this great cause. Will change my Facebook status to request friends do the same. x

giraffescantdancethetango · 21/11/2008 15:49

can I ask a question? see how on driving lisence forms there the option to register, is that exactly the same as being on the list?

Rumpel · 21/11/2008 15:49

Been on it for years - carried a card since age 16. I really think it should be an opt out rather than an opt in.

ragd0ll · 21/11/2008 15:49

Done

GColdtimer · 21/11/2008 15:50

Thank you very much wannabe and flirty. That is a good idea, I will go and do the same.

just put it on my facebook too.

for anyone thinking they will join later - honestly thats the quickest online form I have ever filled out, name, sex, dob, address, email, what parts to donate. DONE easy peasy

GColdtimer · 21/11/2008 15:59

thanks giraffes - it is so easy isn't it!

You are right to do it now rather than hanging on thinking "it is something I will get round to"
