DD has a chest infection (& asthma) & has been prescribed coamoxyclav

In the instructions it says not for children under 12

DD is nearly 11 and a reasonable size - should I still ring the pharmacy to check or just take them as we have been told to

Ring and check, I would. If only for your peace of mind.

I would ring pharmacy and check, just to be on the safe side.

Most drugs don't have a license for use in children (ie have been tested on them fully). It doesn't mean that they can't be used, just that the manufacturer can't say they can be.

So I'd just give them to her.

Well I rang

'I'm sure the Dr would have taken that into consideration'

Made me feel a bit of a wuss really

You could ring the GP surgery just to check (I have done that before when they've prescribed something I have reacted badly to previously).

Mind you, I got a brusque "you'll be fine, it's different" only to be really ill AGAIN when I took it...

If you're still unhappy, ring and ask to speak to the doctor rather than someone who says "I'm sure that ...". Some receptionist (or whoever else it was) can't ever be completely sure about anything - it is the doctor you need to speak to.

If the doctor isn't available, ask for them to ring you back or ask for a time when it would be OK for you to call them.

It was the pharmacist at the GP surgery - she knows DD very well (due to her asthma) si I now she will be right

I guess DD doesn't 'look' 12 really - it's just that I am so surprised she looks so grown-up because she is my baby
