Today I suddenly started coughing but it was strange, like I couldn't get quite enough breath. Then I was very very wheezy. this lasted about 3 or 4 minutes. i feel fine now, I don't have a cough or anything. Does this sound like an asthma attack? Can the doctor do a test for this? Thinking back this has happened before. TIA

did your chest feel like it was constricted? Like someone had put an iron clamp on your lungs?

Yes it did a bit.

You should see your GP I was only diagnosed with asthma in my thirties, but it was apparent looking back that I had it and was not diagnosed as a child. My symptoms were mainly shortness of breath, I would be reading a book to the DC's and couldn't get to the end of the phrase, extreme tiredness and what finally took me to the GP was an extreme episode of wheezing and feeling as though someone had a belt round my chest and was pulling it tight. Mine is normally no problem now it is treated and controlled, I only have problems when I get a cold that goes to my chest and I can often prevent that by doubling my inhalers when I get one. I don't even have to take them all the time now, my asthma nurse lets me take the summer off unless I have a cold. My GP did a peak flow measurement which is just blowing into a meter and then I was given a reliever inhaler to try to see if it improved over a week or so, when I need it I now have a preventer as well. Hope that helps.
