For about a month his once a day poo has been so revoltingly smelly and sloppy most days. First occasion it coincided with a tummy bug going round the family. When it continued I wondered if it was because he'd drank lots of water at the swimming pool. Now I'm wondering if it's something he is or isn't eating. He's 2 1/2 and eats no vegetables, 3 portions of fruit a day and an otherwise fairly balanced diet. Could it be lack of veg causing this?

My dd1 had similar problem for ages until we realised it was improved by avoiding apple juice (I didn't think she drank it excessively).

Can be caused by other allergies, or nerves (has he started preschool or anything new?). Increase fibre could help.

DD had something similar. In her case it was too much fruit, but I remember reading something about lactose intolerance after a tummy bug. Seem to remember foul smell being relevant. HTH

DS1 had very runny nappies as a toddler, we were told it was toddler diarrhoea. He grew out of it eventually, but the lactose intolerance after a tummy bug is a possiblility too. I would ask your GP or health visitor's advice about his symptoms and they may suggest changes in his diet.

the apple juice might be it. he's been having a cup a day lately as have been trying to get closer to his 5 a day fruit and veg (and as he won't eat veg I need to increase the fruit). Will cut it out and see what happens. thanks
